SMblyRequired high school robotics team was founded in 2015 to provide students with the unique experience of working as an engineering team to build a robot and compete at the world level. Our team is given six weeks at the beginning of the year to build a robot to meet the challenge at hand, which is completely different each year. Members of the team can be involved in a variety of ways, be it business, engineering, programming, marketing, manufacturing, or community outreach – there is always a place for a student within our team. Through our program, students will be challenged with making decisions, will learn life-long skills such as obtaining certifications for computer-aided design, gaining programming experience, and working in a business-like environment at an early age. Through FIRST robotics, students gain access to over $50 million in scholarships, *obtain real world engineering skills*, and will become part of an alumni network to aid them in the process of obtaining internships and careers in their future.
Combining the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology.
"FIRST is more than robots. The robots are a vehicle for students to learn important life skills. Kids often come in not knowing what to expect - of the program nor of themselves. They leave, even after the first season, with a vision, with confidence, and with a sense that they can create their own future."
Dean Kamen (FIRST Founder)
We call FIRST Robotics Competition the ultimate Sport for the Mind. High-school student participants call it “the hardest fun you’ll ever have.” Under strict rules, limited resources, and an intense six-week time limit, teams of 20 or more students are challenged to raise funds, design a team “brand,” hone teamwork skills, and build and program industrial-size robots to play a difficult field game against like-minded competitors. It’s as close to real-world engineering as a student can get. Volunteer professional mentors lend their time and talents to guide each team. Each season ends with an exciting FIRST Championship.
